There are many people in the world who aspire to become doctors, although some do so for the wrong reasons. Becoming a doctor can be very fulfilling, but this path is not for everyone. Entering medical school is hard enough, and one must have the passion, determination, and perseverance to become a doctor. When an individual is already a doctor, the work only becomes more difficult. This is why it is essential to identify the reasons why one wants to become a doctor in the first place. Below are five of the worst reasons a person would want to become a doctor.

The huge salary

Many people are under the impression that doctors make a lot of money, and this is enough for them to pursue this kind of career. However, the money doctors spend on medical school also sums up to quite a hefty amount, and, by the time they finish or get their medical degree, they usually have to pay off their student loans first. Money shouldn’t be the prime consideration for choosing a career.

The prestige of the title

Doctors are usually admired and respected because of what they do. There are some people who want to go to medical school for this reason, which is not enough. There are many other careers that will gain the respect of others, and one does not necessarily have to become a doctor to get that.

An interest in medical subjects

There are various kinds of personal statement for medical school mentioning the reason of loving the subjects related to medicine. There is much that a person can learn and gain from the medical field. That being said, being a doctor requires more than just knowledge. To become a successful doctor, a person has to have excellent interpersonal skills and be sensitive toward the needs of patients.

Pressure from others

Many students in medical school are there solely because their parents are doctors and they have been pressured to take the same path. Oftentimes, people go to medical school because doing so would please others. Becoming a doctor should be what a person truly wants. It isn’t something that an individual should be forced to do.

No desire for a vocation

Those who are truly happy about being doctors are those who have made being a doctor their vocation. They are those who really love what they do and like helping people. There’s more to being a doctor than having a high pay and working long hours. It’s important that one is genuinely happy in this profession.
