Are You Suited for a Medical Career? Use the SWOT Analysis to Figure Out
If you are planning to go into any particular career, you have to make sure that you are suited for it. Only when you are suited to that career can you truly enjoy and do well in it. So if you want to embark on a medical career, you should first perform a SWOT analysis to see if you are suited to such a career.

What is a SWOT analysis?
SWOT refers to Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats. You do not need to spend money to perform such an analysis. Pen, paper and an open mind will do the trick. Basically, you just look at your life and list down any strengths and weaknesses you have in relation to a goal. You also list down opportunities that can lead you closer to the goal and threats that can prevent you from achieving the goal. Then, you look back at your lists and decide whether the strengths outweigh the weaknesses and whether the opportunities outweigh the threats.
Using SWOT in relation to a medical career
Now, you use SWOT analysis in relation to a particular goal, in this case a medical careers. You have to compare the strengths that you have with the strengths required in a medical career. This means that you have to figure out if you can match the characteristics needed, which includes not being opposed to hard work and being able to provide comfort to other people. If the strengths required are your weaknesses then you may have to pick a different career altogether. You also have to analyze the opportunities given to you, such as money or scholarship to pursue medical school and mentors in the medical field. Threats could include not having enough money or scholastic background to support your medical education.
By the end of your specified SWOT analysis, you should be able to figure out if you will do well in a medical career. The analysis can help you make the right decision. However, even a myriad of threats cannot prevent you from pursuing a medical career if you have the strengths required and the strong desire for such a career.
