Waitlisted in Med School? Here Are Some Things You Can Do

Not everyone is lucky enough to be immediately accepted during medical school applications. You can comfort yourself in knowing that competition is tight and the standards are further raised in medical school. If you have easily been accepted in your undergraduate program, things are pretty different this time. Most likely, medical school applicants are composed of highly driven students who are also high achievers.

Send updates on your grades and ongoing achievements.

If you were early in your med school applications, then you were not able to submit all your grades. In other words, if you enrolled right after your junior year in an undergraduate program, you were not able to submit your senior year grades. If your senior grades are much better then you should inform your target medical school about this. You should also inform the school about your ongoing achievements. Your new grades and ongoing achievements can improve your chances of getting accepted in your medical school of choice.

Always be pleasant.

Even if you are becoming frustrated about being waitlisted, you should not start venting your frustration on the admissions committee. The members of the committee are just doing their jobs. If you were not able to best represent yourself with your set of application documents then you may not be easily accepted into the program. Good manners can even be the ultimate deciding point when the committee is choosing among competitive but waitlisted students. Even if you do not get accepted, you should be pleasant. This way, you can still at least be proud of yourself.

Conduct a grand scale research on your target medical school.

Just because you are waitlisted and not accepted at once does not mean that you should give up. When you are declared as waitlisted, all the more that you should give your application a lot of effort. You should conduct more research on your target medical school. Find out what it really is looking for in an applicant. Find out if there are recent developments in the medical school and if these developments somehow affect who the admissions committee members accept.

Waitlisted medical school applicants should never give up. There is still a chance that they can be accepted during that particular school year. If Plan B does not work then there is always the following school year to get more prepared for.
